Honey I’m home

Happy Earth Day! Today, we celebrate the beautiful planet we call home and reflect on the impact that we have on the environment.

Earth Day is an opportunity to learn more about the many issues affecting our planet and take action to protect it. As honey bees play a vital role in supporting our ecosystem, the Hali Team have partnered with OpenHive who support the conservation work of the native Irish honeybee. OpenHive combines modern and sustainable beekeeping techniques to help the Irish black honeybee thrive and to produce high quality, local Irish honey. By Hali sponsoring a hive, we are helping the native black bee to thrive again in Ireland. The hive will house roughly 50,000 bees by midsummer.

What a wonderful contribution to our environment, not to mention the delicious pots of Hali honey we will enjoy! You can discover a wide range of local honey on OpenHive.ie to enjoy at home. Let us know your favourite!

Here are some of the many ways we can all support Irish honey bees, and what they can do for our ecosystem:

Pollination

Honey bees are important pollinators, and without them, many plants would not be able to reproduce. Honey bees pollinate around 80% of all flowering plants, which include many fruits, vegetables, and nuts. By pollinating these plants, honey bees support food production and help maintain biodiversity.

Planting flowers

Honey bees need flowers to survive and thrive. By planting flowers that are native to your area, you can create a pollinator-friendly environment that will support honey bees and other beneficial insects. This is an easy way to support honey bees and other pollinators while also beautifying your outdoor space.

Avoiding pesticides

Honey bees are highly sensitive to pesticides, which can be toxic to them. By avoiding the use of pesticides in your garden and choosing natural alternatives, you can help protect honey bees and other pollinators from harm.

Supporting local beekeepers like OpenHive

Honey bees are essential for honey production, and local beekeepers rely on them for their livelihoods. By supporting local beekeepers and purchasing locally produced honey, you can help support honey bee populations and promote sustainable agriculture.

Honey bees play a vital role in our ecosystem, and by supporting them, we can help promote biodiversity, food production, and sustainable agriculture. By taking simple actions like planting flowers, avoiding pesticides, and supporting local beekeepers, we can all help support honey bees and make a positive impact on the environment. Not to mention the delicious honey we will be rewarded with, what a sweet treat!
